1 JOHN STUDY
John writes this epistle (letter written by apostles) so you may be certain that Jesus is the savior and Lord. This belief is not a one-time event but rather a pattern of life that requires incredible discipline. The result is to “make our joy complete” (1 John 1:4).
As the last living apostle at the time, John’s testimony was highly authoritative among the churches of his day. Many eagerly sought to hear the one who had first-hand experience with the Lord Jesus.
John’s message is clear: You’re either a Christian or you’re not. It’s easy to tell the difference. According to John, true belief manifests itself not merely theologically but also morally and socially. Those who trust and love God will love others and hate sin. Failure to love others and pursue holiness is rooted in a failure to truly believe the gospel.
