Advent Three-Fold Communion Service (The Chapel)

December 22 11:00 am  |  The Chapel

575 Diley Road, Pickerington, OH, USA

**No regular services Sunday, December 22**
In place of these services, The Chapel will be hosting an Advent-themed Three Fold Communion

This Advent season, as we anticipate the celebration of our Savior’s birth, let’s remember that He’s Savior because of His sacrifice. Join us for a time of singing hymns and experiencing the events of the Last Supper, getting a deeper understanding of Jesus’ heart for us, and worshiping Him in this unique way.

On Sunday, December 22, from 11am to 1pm, we’ll participate in threefold communion (explanation below) and enjoy a special meal.

Threefold Communion:
Threefold Communion is patterned after Jesus’ supper with the disciples just before his crucifixion and includes footwashing, a full meal, and the bread and cup. Rich in symbolism, this practice points us to truths in our past, present and future.

  • Footwashing reminds us of our present state. John 13:14: “Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.”
This symbolizes God’s ongoing cleansing of our confessed sins in our journey of daily sanctification.
  • The Last Supper reminds us of our future with Christ. Luke 22:16: “For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God.”
We enjoy this meal together in anticipation of the Marriage Supper of the Lamb and the feasting that we will enjoy in Christ’s kingdom.
  • The Eucharist reminds us of Christ’s past sacrifice for usLuke 22:19-20: And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.”
The bread and cup, symbolizing the body and blood of Christ, are a living memorial for us to say “Thank you”- after all, “thankfulness” is what eucharist means!
