My first trip to Cambodia didn’t leave me anticipating a return trip. The month I spent there in 2013 was plenty long enough, and I never planned to return, but God had other plans!
About a year and a half later, God started working in my heart and preparing me to return. I started hearing about Cambodia in so many different ways – conversations, social media, on the news, in sermons – every day for seven months, and that’s not something you can ignore! As I began questioning why Cambodia kept coming up, I started praying for the country and the people. While Cambodia didn’t change a lot during that time, my heart did! When I went on a short-term trip to Cambodia the following year, I fell in love with the country and people within two days and knew I would return.
My heart for the country and the many here without the hope of Christ grew during an internship in 2016-2017. I had the opportunity to see an excitement and passion for Christ, particularly in the younger generations – high school and university students. I didn’t know then what God had planned, but I was fairly certain I would come back to Cambodia after the year ended.
In October 2021, I moved to Phnom Penh, Cambodia. I am finishing up our language program and transitioning into full-time ministry with the World Team University Dorm. Many universities here have little or no student housing, so students need to find their own place to live. The dorm provides both a safe place and discipleship and leadership training. Our heart is that these young believers will become church leaders and church planters as they spread out throughout the country of Cambodia to share the hope of Christ.
Here are ways you can partner with me on this journey:
- Pray for the believers here to be passionate and excited to share the Gospel, to stand strong in the faith and be bold witnesses.
- Pray for the university dorm students to “grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ,” (2 Peter 3:18) and to be lights in this dark country.
- Pray for more workers – “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.” (Matthew 9:37)
- Consider partnering with me financially.
